Hey,
Welcome to The Edge! We are the grade 6 and 7 community of Granville Chapel. Here’s some info on what kinds of things we are up to.
Community Hour1st, 2nd, 4th, (& 5th) Sunday mornings from 10-11:30am @ GCEvery Sunday (except the third
Sunday of the month) The EDGE community meets at Granville Chapel for Community Hour.We begin by arriving at Granville Chapel for church at 10am. Many of us sit together in the front, left-hand side of the church, and we'd love you to join us! Then, after the worship team's first worship set, The EDGE is dismissed to our Community Hour (upstairs in the youth room) where we continue in our own time encountering God together. This is a chance for us to come together to worship God and enjoy great fellowship with one another.
The EDGE Service TeamsThe 3rd Sundays of the month from 10-11:30amEvery 3rd Sunday of the Month is "Youth Sunday," which means our community stays-in and helps run the main service at Granville Chapel. We help lead worship, do sound, powerpoint, act as greeters/ushers, make tea and coffee, run the library, make announcements, read scripture, and lead the congregation in prayer. It is a fantastic way to serve the larger community at Granville Chapel, and for us to try out new ways of serving to discover what our passions are!Beginning Sunday, September 13th, you will have the opportunity to sign up to serve on a service team. Our entire community participates in this, so we encourage you to join us! It's a chance to grow in the gifts that God has given us as we serve the body of Christ. Eastside, and do other service projects in and around our local community. We hope you'll join us on these nights, because you'll find that as you serve others, God meets and blesses you in new ways.
This is also the night you'll be serving alongside people from the HUB community -- it's a great chance to get to know some of the older folk in our youth community!
EDGE C.I.A. NightEvery 2nd Friday from 7-9pmEvery 2nd Friday of the month the EDGE comes together to serve others: not because we have to, but because we believe that Jesus was primarily motivated by love and service, often at a cost. C.I.A. means Compassion-In-Action. We refuse to be consumer Christians who focus only on ourselves or our community. Although it's important for us to have great community and fellowship with one another, that's not all! Part of following Jesus means we join Him in where he's at: that means getting outside our comfort zones and putting others before ourselves. On these nights we serve at Gather and Give, make soup for the homeless on the Downtown
EDGE HangoutsEvery 4th Friday night from 7-9pmEvery fourth Friday night of the month our community gets together to experience fellowship. Fellowship is more than friendship. Friendship is tied to interest groups; fellowship is tied to Jesus. When we come together on Friday nights we want to do two things: honor Jesus and have fun. This is a great opportunity to invite friends and see people who aren't in community hour on Sunday mornings. These evenings are full of games, fun, laughter, food, and lots of fellowship. We are always looking for families who would like to host an EDGE Hangout in their home. Sign-ups for hosting will begin Sunday, September 13th after the church service.
EDGE Special EventsDuring the school year, we do a variety of things which happen once or twice.
We will be having:
- A church retreat (Fall - Sign up at Granville Chapel by Sept. 6th)
- A music concert (Winter)
- Snowtubing (Winter)
- A youth retreat (Spring)
As the year unfolds, you will hear more about these opportunities that you won't want to miss!
A word to our Grade 7s...WOW ya'll! You are now at the top of your class. You are a leader for everyone under you. This is a tremendous opportunity and responsibility. In your last year in Junior High with one more year until you are in High School, this is a year for you to really grow and develop as a leader. If you would like to be a leader in the EDGE this year, talk to your EDGE interns.
We have new EDGE interns!Do you know what an edge intern is? An EDGE Intern is a college aged person who is committing to serve Junior High Students for one year. They are employed by Granville Chapel and in charge leading the EDGE for the school year. They work closely with Joe and Heidi to ensure the junior high students of Granville Chapel have an amazing year!...and we have two new AWESOME Edge Interns! They are ready, excited, and can't wait to get started. If you are going to the Church Retreat...you will meet them. Otherwise you will meet them at the first community hour on September 13th.We know you will love them as much as we do.
We can't wait to see you at Granville Chapel! The EDGE is going to be AWESOME this year!
Peace,
Joe & Heidi White
